General information

Yes, Oticon ON is available for both Apple and Android devices. The features are overall the same for both systems, but some features might be limited to one or the other operating system.

Oticon ON can be downloaded from the Apple App Store® or Google Play™ store. Just install the app on your smartphone as you would do for any other app.

Yes, Oticon ON is free to download and to use.

The Internet of Things/IFTTT feature is linked to an external provider (IFTTT), but it is still free to use as long as you use the ready-made Oticon applets. If you want to create your own applets, you will need to subscribe to IFTTT Pro, for a fee. Please refer to the IFTTT website for more information.

Yes, the app has a ‘Demo’ mode you can use to have a look at the features and see if you like it. Of course, you will need to connect Oticon ON to your Oticon hearing aids to experience the full benefits.

No, you can use most features in Oticon ON without creating an account. Only the HearingFitness™ and IFTTT features require an account to get up and running.

Pairing

Yes, it is possible to connect your hearing aids to several devices simultaneously. However, we recommend to pair your hearing aids to one device at a time, to make sure the device you are using is the one in full control. This will help simplify the process of streaming sound through your hearing aids.

The connection range is up to 10 meters, depending on the environment you are in and the configuration of your home.


Features

Yes, Oticon ON enables you to adjust volume on your hearing aids discreetly or to mute/unmute them. You can choose to control both hearing aids in the same way, or to adjust the volume on either the left or right side separately. You can also use the app to switch to another program.

Yes, you can use Oticon ON to keep an eye on your hearing aids’ battery levels. You can also set up your app to receive a notification when your hearing aid is running low on battery.

Yes, the Tinnitus SoundSupport feature in Oticon ON generates sounds to provide temporary relief for patients suffering from tinnitus, as part of a tinnitus management program. This feature will only be available in the app if your hearing care professional activated the tinnitus feature when they provided you with your hearing aids. Please contact your hearing aid professional to know more.

Yes, Oticon ON includes a remote microphone feature, available for Apple devices. It enables you to use your phone as a microphone, which you can give to your conversation partner, and use your hearing aids as headphones so their voice is streamed directly into your ear. This can help you to hear their voice more clearly - even at a distance - and it can also reduce the impact of environmental noise.


This feature is not available in Oticon ON for Android devices, but you can instead use Oticon ConnectClip as a remote microphone.

If you have an Apple device, you can use the remote microphone feature. Open the main Remote Control screen in Oticon ON, and select one of the general programs. The remote microphone feature can be activated simply by tapping the microphone icon on the bottom right corner of your screen. Once the icon turns green, the remote microphone is activated. Give your phone to your conversation partner and ask them to speak into the microphone. Their voice will be streamed directly into your ear. To finish, just tap the icon again.

The ‘Find My Hearing Aids’ feature is a handy tool that shows you the exact GPS location of your hearing aids at any given moment, or where they were the last time they were turned on and connected to the app. This feature can be very useful if you have lost your hearing aids and need a bit of help in getting them back.

You will need an Oticon TV Adapter if you want to stream sound from your TV to your hearing aids. Oticon ON is an easy way to control the volume of the sound you stream and manage external environmental sound. You might use multiple TV Adapters for streaming sound from numerous TVs; if so, Oticon ON helps you control and name each of your connections – so you can switch between them when you decide to watch TV in another room, for instance.

Yes, Oticon ON also enables you to control other connectivity products from Oticon, such as ConnectClip or EduMic. It facilitates volume adjustments and helps you control the amount of environmental sound that is picked up by your hearing aids.

Yes, all Oticon Bluetooth hearing aids are ‘Made for iPhone’ (MFi) and sound can be streamed from iPhone, iPad or iPod touch directly to your hearing aids. You do not need Oticon ON to stream sound from your Apple device. ​

If you have compatible hearing aids and a compatible iPhone, you can enjoy fully hands-free phone calls by connecting your hearing aids directly to your iPhone via Bluetooth.

If your hearing aids or iPhone are not compatible with the latest fully hands-free communication, you will need to use ConnectClip to enable hands-free calls, or speak into your iPhone’s microphone.

  • If you have an Android smartphone that supports Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA) and hearing aids that support direct streaming from Android, you can stream audio from your phone directly to your hearing aids, including phone calls. Using ConnectClip will enable you to speak hands-free.

​You do not need Oticon ON to make hands-free calls with ConnectClip and your smartphone.​

  • If your Android device does not support ASHA or if you have hearing aids that are not compatible with direct streaming from Android, you will need ConnectClip as an intermediate device to stream sound to your hearing aids. The sound is transmitted back-and-forth between your device and your hearing aids through ConnectClip. You also benefit from the freedom of making and receiving hands-free calls; your hearing aids become your headphones and ConnectClip becomes your microphone.

You do not need Oticon ON to make hands-free calls with ConnectClip and your smartphone.

Check if your phone is compatible

The HearingFitness feature in Oticon ON enables you to take greater control of the way you use your hearing aids. It can be used to set goals with regards to how much you use your hearing aids, monitor the progress you are making and improve your hearing health behaviour.

The Internet of Things feature in Oticon ON enables you to connect your hearing aids to other internet-connected devices. You can even set your own smart connections, for instance, turning your hearing aids on could start your coffee machine, or you could receive a notification in your hearing aids when someone is ringing your doorbell.

Internet of Things/IFTTT feature

‘If This Then That’ (IFTTT) is a third-party service that enables you to automate how your hearing aids, home appliances, apps, and websites work with each other through customizable rules.

Yes, you need to create an Oticon account as well as an IFTTT account.

Yes, it is safe. You are solely in charge of designing your own connections to other devices and these are strictly personal and not visible to other people. Make sure you always carefully protect your login information.

No, using this feature requires no additional power so it will not affect your battery life.

Yes, just make sure the new hearing aids are compatible with Oticon ON. Once the new hearing aids are paired with your phone, you can continue using your IFTTT services with your new hearing aids through Oticon ON.

You can disable this feature (and later turn it back on again) directly through Oticon ON.


Streaming equalizer

An equalizer is like a “filter” that can adjust the loudness of specific frequency bands. A streaming equalizer, like the one in Oticon ON, can be used to adjust the sound you are streaming to your hearing aids (such as music, a podcast, an audiobook, audio from a movie or a video, sound streamed from a remote microphone). This gives you some extra control over the streamed sound you hear, meaning you can enjoy a personalized listening experience.

The streaming equalizer feature is available for all Oticon Bluetooth hearing aids, except Oticon Opn and Oticon Siya. If your hearing aids do not support this feature, you will not see the streaming equalizer button in the app at all.

The streaming equalizer allows you to adjust the loudness of three frequency ranges (bands): Low (bass sounds), Mid (mid-range sounds) and High (treble sounds). You can adjust the volume of each band separately, to reach the sound that feels most comfortable and balanced for you.

For each band, you can increase the volume level up to +6dB or decrease it down to -12dB.

For iPhone or iPad used with Oticon Bluetooth hearing aids*, For Android phones supporting ASHA used with ASHA-compatible hearing aids:

The streaming equalizer button appears on the Remote Control screen (in any programme except Tinnitus programmes). When you are streaming, the button is active (green colour) and the changes in the equalizer settings can be immediately heard in your hearing aids. When you are not streaming, the button is inactive (grey colour); you can still modify the equalizer settings, and the settings you have chosen will be used whenever you start streaming. The sound you equalize using the streaming equalizer is only ever the sound you are streaming, and not the general sound around you that is picked up by your hearing aids’ microphones.

For Android phones not supporting ASHA,For Android phones supporting ASHA but used with hearing aids that are not ASHA-compatible:

The streaming equalizer button appears on the Remote Control screen as soon as you start streaming audio to your hearing aids using another Oticon device (ConnectClip, EduMic or TV Adapter). Once the streaming stops, the button will disappear from the screen – until the next time you stream audio again. The sound you equalize using the streaming equalizer is only ever the sound you are streaming, and not the general sound around you that is picked up by your hearing aids’ microphones.

*All Oticon Bluetooth hearing aids support the streaming equalizer feature, except Oticon Opn and Oticon Siya.

Is my phone compatible?

Once you tap the streaming equalizer button, a new screen will open showing the three frequency bands. You can adjust the loudness of each band by using the corresponding slider.

If you have left the streaming equalizer screen, tap the designated button again. Under the sliders, tap the RESTORE DEFAULT button to go back to default settings (0 dB for each band).

Yes. When you are streaming audio through an Oticon device, you will see the streaming equalizer button on the Remote Control screen. Simply tap it to start adjusting the sound you are streaming from these devices. When the streaming stops, the button will disappear until you resume streaming.

Yes, you can use the streaming equalizer to fine-tune the sound when you are listening to music – provided this sound is being streamed to your hearing aids (from your phone, TV Adapter or ConnectClip). The streaming equalizer will not work if you are playing music on regular loudspeakers.

Yes, you can.

When you are streaming audio to your hearing aids while in Oticon ON:

Your changes to the equalizer settings can be immediately heard in your hearing aids. This is the case when you are using apps that continue streaming even when in the background (i.e. the streaming app is still open, but not visible on your screen).

When you are not streaming audio yet, or when you are using another app that pauses streaming when it is in the background (i.e. the streaming app is still open, but not visible on your screen):

For iPhone and iPad used with Oticon Bluetooth hearing aids*, or for Android phones supporting ASHA used together with ASHA-compatible hearing aids, you can modify the equalizer settings – the new settings you have chosen will be implemented when the streaming starts again. For Android phones not supporting ASHA, or for Android phones supporting ASHA but used with hearing aids that are not ASHA-compatible, you can only modify the streaming equalizer settings while you are streaming.

*All Oticon Bluetooth hearing aids support the streaming equalizer feature, except Oticon Opn and Oticon Siya.

Is my phone compatible?

Yes, you can.

Yes. You can use the streaming equalizer to fine-tune the voice of your conversation partner when using the remote microphone feature in Oticon ON. This feature is only available for iOS devices.

No, the streaming equalizer cannot adjust the sound that is picked up by your hearing aids’ microphones. You can only equalize the sound that is streamed from other sources (either other Oticon devices or other apps).

Yes, the streaming equalizer will remember your settings when you start streaming from another app or another device – as long as you keep Oticon ON active (you can switch to another app, but you should keep Oticon ON active in the background). You can go back to Oticon ON any time you want to adjust the settings again.

No, when the app is closed, the settings will be restored to default (0 dB for each band). Go back to Oticon ON any time you want to adjust the settings again.

Yes, the streaming equalizer settings will be memorized by Oticon ON as long as you keep it active (you can switch to another app, but you should keep Oticon ON active in the background). Once your hearing aids are restarted, the app will reapply the same settings to the hearing aids.

If you only restart one hearing aid (and have two hearing aids), the app will read the streaming equalizer settings from the other hearing aid and restore these settings on the restarted hearing aid.

No, however, your chosen settings will be remembered and used as long as Oticon ON remains active (even if only in the background).

This option is actually only available in the Oticon ON app for white, rose or red noise. Unfortunately, this option does not exist for marine noise.
